The members of the panel on “The Meaning of Everest: Personal Looks At The Anniversary” discussed what Everest has meant to each of them and others in their close climbing community. The panelists were: Ed Douglas, author of Tenzing: Hero of Everest and Chomolungma Sings the Blues: Travels Round Everest; Tom Hornbein, experienced mountain climber and editor of Everest in “The Mountaineers Anthology Series;” Peter Potterfield, author of Selected Climbs in the Cascades and In the Zone: Epic Survival Stories from the Mountaineering World; and Maria Coffey, author of Where the Mountain Casts Its Shadow: The Dark Side of Extreme Adventure. Mr. Barcott moderated the panel. After their discussion, panel members answered questions from members of the audience. close
