After an introduction by Mr. Regan, Mr. Quammen talked about his book, Monster of God: The Man-Eating Predator in the Jungles of History and the Mind, published by W.W. Norton and Company. The book explores the relationship between man-eating predators of the world and the men and women who live and work in close proximity to them. The author closely examines four such predators: the Asiatic lion of Gir Forest, in India; the saltwater crocodile, in Australia and India; the brown bear, in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania; and the Siberian or Amur tiger, in the far eastern part of Russia. He analyzes the past, present, and possible future of the animals. Mr. Quammen traveled to the regions that are home to each of these creatures while researching the book. Following his presentation, the author responded to questions from the audience.
