Subcommittee members heard testimony about sexual assault and violence against women in the military and at the military academies. Witnesses in the first panel talked about sexual assault, violence, and rape prevention in the military and recommended modernizing the provisions regarding sexual assault in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Topics included accountability, confidentiality, public education about sexual assault, and personal testimony about sexual assault at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Defense Department and military academy officials in the second panel testified about prevention of sexual assaults, investigations, victim support, officer education, criminal prosecution, and other issues.
