Representative John Conyers(D-MI), the chairman of the House National Security sub-committee of the Government Operations committee, discussed the role of minorities serving in the military in the Middle East. He said that there are disproportionate numbers of African-American military personnel serving in the Persian Gulf because they are economically and culturally disadvantaged and that the all-volunteer military system is illusory. close
