Activists and representatives of organized labor spoke about the War on Terror. The called on workers across the world to “resist empire.” They spoke against the U.S. occupation of Iraq and criticized both major political parties for “exploiting the suffering at Ground Zero as a cynical pretext for a war of terror against working people” in the U.S. and abroad. They called for U.S. troops to be removed from Iraq immediately, and that “this war must end now!” They called on workers to conduct a boycott of all work and business from December 3, 2004 to December 10, 2004 to protest the war. They also called for union pension and investment funds to withdraw their support for the defense industry. Speakers also criticized U.S. neo-liberal policies that use debt to control the foreign policies of developing nations.
