The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Hernandez v. Mesa, a case on whether constitutional protections can extend past U.S. boundaries. More specifically, at issue was whether the family of a a 15-year-old unarmed boy on the Mexican side of the border can sue a U.S. Border Patrol agent for shooting and killing him. The shooting took place in a concrete culvert that separates El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, with the boy on the Mexican side of the border and the agent on the U.S. side.
