President Obama presided over a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to urge the adoption of a resolution requiring countries to prosecute “foreign fighters,” individuals who leave their home to join extremist groups. Members unanimously passed the resolution.

The United States held the presidency of the Security Council for the month of September 2014. When President Obama left to attend another meeting after two hours Secretary of State Kerry took the chair before turning it over to Ambassador Power.

Due to technical difficulties with the United Nations feed, the speeches of the presidents of France and Chad were not translated. close
