Michelle Goldberg talked about her book The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power and the Future of the World (Penguin Press; April 2, 2009). In her book she exposes the global war on women’s reproductive rights and its disastrous and unreported consequences for the future of global development. She shows how the emancipation of women has become the key human rights struggle of the 21st century. Ms. Goldberg believes women’s rights and human rights are synonymous, and she details what she calls “the conflict between self-determination and patriarchal tradition.” She was interviewed by Mr. Vocke and responded to questions from members of the audience. This New Leaders Program was taped on May 14, 2009, at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in New York City. close
