Todd Groce talked about the origins of the Civil War and the motivations of both sides to fight. He argued that the fall of Atlanta had come to mark the symbolic end of the Confederacy and the antebellum way of life in the South. His talk, “Civil War Atlanta: Why it Still Matters,” was part of the opening event of a series commemorating the role of Atlanta, Georgia, in the Civil War. The Atlanta Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission sponsored this event held at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library Museum. close
