Mr. Whitney talked about the book he edited The WMD Mirage: Iraq's Decade of Deception and America's False Premise for War, published by Public Affairs. He argues that the United States relied on faulty intelligence in making the decision to go to war in Iraq. He was joined in the discussion by Patricia Wald, Commissioner of the Committee on the Intelligence Capabilities of the U.S. Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction; and Charles Duelfer, former head of the Iraq Survey Group. The panelists talked about the failures of the U.S. intelligence community as well as continuing questions about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. After the discussion, they responded to audience questions.
