Author and journalist Bonnie Angelo talked about her book First Families: The Impact of the White House on Their Lives, published by Harper. Her book covers the previous 200 years of American history, telling the story of everyday life within the White House. Her research focused on how presidents and their families worked to create a home in an imposing national monument and the tension of keeping their private lives from the public domain. She spoke at length about the impact of living in the White House on the children.

“Life in the BIG Fish Bowl” was a book talk held in the Washington Room Thursday, June 11, 2009, at noon in connection with the exhibit, “BIG! Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the National Archives.” close
