Historians and authors spoke at the National First Ladies' Library’s first annual symposium, “First Ladies and American Women’s History.” The morning panel titled “The Secret Lives of Private Wives” looked at first ladies who served their husbands in a more subdued manner, but whose lives were notable examples for women’s history. They focused on Jane Pierce, Martha Washington, and Abigail Adams. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
