Ms. Goodwin talked about the way a leader’s private life affects his public actions. Ms. Goodwin analyzed the private life of Abraham Lincoln and three other contenders for the presidency in 1860, Salmon Chase, William Seward, and Edward Bates. Following her remarks, Ms. Goodwin took questions from members of the audience.

Ms. Goodwin was introduced by Mr. Carson who serves on the board of directors of the Abraham Lincoln Institute.
