Mr. Liedtke talked about his earlier years as a business partner with George Bush prior to Mr. Bush’s political career. He also discussed his thoughts about the United States economy and his company’s $3.1 billion dollar battle to overtake the Getty Oil Company. Born February 10, 1992 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. Liedtke received his B.A. degree from Amherst College and graduate degrees from Harvard Business School and the University of Texas Law School. He explained how he first started in business and his ideas about trying to build an energy and oil company. Mr. Liedtke first became interested in the oil business as a young child living in Tulsa. Shortly after graduation, Mr. Liedtke served on an aircraft carrier in World War II. He described his experiences upon his return to the United States and his pursuit of a law degree. Many of Mr. Liedtke’s comments concerned his success with the Pennzoil Company. He explained the history of the company, from the initial breakup of Standard Oil in the early 1900s. He saw in Pennzoil a chance to take over a regional company which had a strong heart, expand it, and get it involved in the western United States.
