The history of westward expansion was examined through the writings of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Lewis and Clark led an expedition to explore the West following the Louisiana Purchase. During the expedition they made several maps of Western lands and recorded diaries of the journey.
The program was telecast from a reconstructed Fort Clatsop, Lewis and Clark's winter encampment from December 1805 to March 1806, at which they revised their diaries and produced maps of the regions.
