Panel members responded to Governor Booth Gardner’s remarks on health care reforms at the state level during the conference entitled, “Beyond Medicaid: Building a Health Care System for All Ages,” sponsored by Generations United. Generations United is a coalition of groups, including the American Association of Retired Persons, dedicated to advancing reforms in health care and increasing access to health care for all Americans. Gov. Gardner’s remarks, immediately preceding the panel, centered around integrating national medical programs like Medicaid around state health care reforms. He also advocated removing Medicaid from funding long-term care for the elderly. Panel members discussed Medicaid from varying perspectives; Mr. Clark discussed the difficulties in his work as a state Medicaid director, and Ms. Rosenbaum discussed the difficulties in reforming Medicaid without reform of related services helping American families.
