Kasey Pipes, a former speech writer for President Bush, talked about lessons to be learned from the Bush presidency. He focused on decisions made by President Bush and the impact of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Mr. Kipes believes that ultimately the President made his decisions based on what he believed was right for the country and that the passage of time is the best judge of a president’s legacy. He responded to audience members' questions following his remarks.

“President George W. Bush: Tough Decisions in Tough Times” was the luncheon address of a two-day conference “Bush: Legacy and Lessons, What Citizens and the Next President Need to Know.” It was held at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, D.C. close
