Mr. Hochschild talked about his book [King Leopold’s Ghost: A Story

of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa], published by

Houghton Mifflin Company. He described the search for a colony

for Belgium by King Leopold during the scramble for colonies in Asia

and Africa. Once the Belgian Congo was established Leopold instituted

a reign of terror that killed millions of native people. After his

prepared remarks the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
