Lawmakers met to work out a final version of the crime bill. Congressional negotiators met for the first time today to resolve the differences between the House and Senate versions of anti-crime legislation. Both chambers' measures provide more than 20 billion dollars to provide for more police and prisons and to expand the federal death penalty. This meeting, known as a conference committee, was led by the chairmen of the Senate and House Judiciary panels, Senator Joe Biden and Congressman Jack Brooks.
