Linda and David Beito are the authors of Black Maverick: T.R.M. Howard’s Fight for Civil Rights and Economic Power (University of Illinois Press; April 8, 2009). They talked about why Theodore Roosevelt Mason Howard (1908-76), a civil rights leader, entrepreneur, and surgeon, had been overlooked by historians of the movement.
