The group celebrated its 25th anniversary and presented its 10th annual award to Senator George Mitchell (D-Maine) for his efforts to preserve the environment over his law and legislative career. Several notable environmentalist politicians made remarks, including Vice President Gore. He paid tribute to the work of the organization and to Senator Mitchell and the continuing need for action in preserving the environment. Senator Mitchell made brief acceptance remarks and then spoke about the immediate future of environmental legislation. close
