Various dignitaries spoke at an awards dinner celebrating the contributions of five women who were first in their fields, including former Rep. Boggs who was the first female ambassador to the Vatican (1997-2001), former Secretary Dole who was the first female Transportation Secretary, Dr. Healy who was the first female director of the National Institutes of Health, Mrs. King who founded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, and Mrs. Holladay who founded the National Museum of Women in the Arts. First lady Laura Bush made videotaped remarks at the opening of the event. close
