This was the second of seven debates among candidates seeking the British Labour Party leadership. Elections for the party’s leadership were called following the death of John Smith, who died of a heart attack in May. Ms. Beckett, Tony Blair, and John Prescott are the main contenders. Each candidate spoke for a maximum of ten minutes. Then, they each answered questions from the audience. Lastly, each took about two minutes to summarize their positions. close
