The guest talked about food safety and labeling standards. She also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

The House begins debate this week on H.R. 4167 that would give the Food and Drug Administration authority to set national standards for food safety, including labels that advise consumers on potentially harmful ingredients. Opponents, including consumer groups and many state attorneys general, argue the bill would preempt state food safety regulations. A vote on the bill, which is sponsored by Reps. Mike Rogers (R-MI) and Edolphus Towns (D-NY) is scheduled in the House for next week. close
