After serving nearly two decades under house arrest, Burma’s (Myanmar) pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi addressed a joint session of British Parliament gathered in Westminster Hall. She was the only woman, apart from the Queen, to address both houses of Parliament. She talked about her time under house arrest and winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. This event included brief remarks by both the speakers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. close
