Michael Kinsley talked about the latest news in politics, social issues, and culture, and expounded on his recent columns tackling elitism, lobbying, and the economy. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. Mr. Kinsley, when asked to comment on the barbs traded between Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, and Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen concerning mothers who work and those who stay at home with their children, called the story “ridiculous.” He went on to say that 75 percent of most contemporary politics involves “phony umbrage.....Someone says something that obviously they wish they could take back. Then, someone on the other side says they’re terribly, terribly outraged by it, which they aren’t. They’re actually delighted, because they have something to bash the other side with.” close
