She spent the war years at Puyallup Assembly Center in Washington and then in the Minidoka camp in Idaho. In the 1970s and 1980s, she worked with the Japanese American Citizens League to seek redress. President Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, providing a government apology and reparations for Japanese Americans.
