Justice Kennedy gave the keynote address on the state of U.S. prisons and his opposition to mandatory federal sentencing minimums. He also reflected on the program he initiated with the ABA following the September 11 terrorist attacks, a “dialogue on freedom” with American students. Prior to Justice Kennedy’s remarks, the ABA bestowed an honorary lifetime membership on Mohammed Odeh Rehaief, the Iraqi lawyer who tipped off U.S. Marines on the whereabouts of P.O.W. Jessica Lynch. close
