Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina held a hearing, titled “Hurricane Katrina: Preparedness and Response by the State of Mississippi.” Elected officials and experts testified about state and local preparation, response, and coordination with the federal government. The first panel discussed deficiencies in the federal support for the state of Mississippi, including shortages in the food supply, and successes, which included delivery of medical supplies. Then, the second panel discussed local response and federal coordination with city and county officials. Mayor Warr showed a video of the devastation in his city. close
