In its second hearing, the A.B.A. Commission on Judicial Independence and Separation of Powers heard testimony from judges, attorneys, law professors and other legal experts concerning the meaning and exercise of judicial independence from the legislative and executive branches. The witnesses testified about various threats to judicial independence, such as reducing the terms of federal judges and allowing legislatures to overturn judicial rulings in some cases.
