Mr. Foskett talked about his book Judging Thomas: The Life and Times of Clarence Thomas, published by William Morrow. He based his biography of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on interviews he conducted with Justice Thomas, along with other Supreme Court justices, family members, and friends of Justice Thomas. Mr. Foskett traced the roots of Justice Thomas’s willingness to challenge expectations to his upbringing in Savannah, and found the origins of his conservative politics in his disillusionment with the Black Power movement and Affirmative Action in the mid 1970s. Mr. Foskett went on to discuss Clarence Thomas’s time on the Supreme Court in light of the controversy surrounding his confirmation and accusations of sexual misconduct. Following his remarks, Mr. Foskett responded to audience questions.
