Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. O’Shea discussed the morning headlines from his newspaper and the television ratings from the first part of the convention. In the next segment, Mr. McDonough discussed his series on the radio about past conventions, and future trends in national political conventions. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Blankley and Mayor Schmoke discussed the morning headlines and stories of interest to them. Mr. Trumka discussed the impact organized labor unions would have in the upcoming general and congressional elections. Rep. Kennelly discussed the Democratic Party platform and what it would mean during the presidential campaign. close
