Spike Lee delivered the commencement address to the 2016 graduating class of Johns Hopkins University at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. He discussed race relations and criticized presumptive 2016 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Mr. Lee had made a campaign commercial for Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, before the New York primary elections. He warned graduates about the turbulent times they were about to enter and urged them to be catalysts for change for the “99 percent.” Mr. Lee also paid tribute to the late singer Prince with a reading of his song “Baltimore” that was released the previous year after the riots in that city. close
