Gov. Wilder, elected governor of Virginia in 1990, delivered the keynote address at the Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner held by the Delaware Democratic party. Gov. Wilder set up an exploratory committee earlier in the year to “test the waters” for his presidential or vice presidential nomination in 1992. In his remarks, Gov. Wilder resolved that the Democratic party could defeat George Bush in 1992, and reaffirmed the “social compassion and fiscal common sense” of the Democratic party. He went on to criticize many of the Republican policies of the past 11 years, including the failed “war on drugs.” close
