Richard Brookhiser recounted the life of President James Madison (1751-1836), the fourth American president. The author examined his influence in the framing of the U.S. Constitution, collaboration on the Federalist Papers, development of the Republican Party, and his command of troops during the War of 1812. Mr. Brookhiser responded to questions from members of the audience at this Constitution Day celebration by the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
