Robert Robertson talked about longtime Democratic Representative and Committee Chair Jack Brooks. Defeated for re-election in 1994, Representative Brooks' 40-year career included helping to write the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act in 1965, and drafts for the articles of impeachment of President Nixon. Representative Brooks was in the motorcade in Dallas when President Kennedy was shot, and on the plane when President Johnson was sworn-in. Professor Robertson was interviewed standing at the base of a statue of Jack Brooks in the central plaza at Lamar University.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2012 LCV Cities Tour” in Beaumont, Texas, on January 9-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time-Warner Cable local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
