Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism presented the 2004 J. Anthony Lukas Prize Awards. This year, the recipients were David Maraniss for They Marched Into Sunlight and Rebecca Solnit for River of Shadows: Eadweard Muybridge and the Technological Wild West. This year’s Work-in-Progress award was given to John Bowe for his upcoming book on modern day slavery. Following the awards ceremony, Mr. Lemann moderated a discussion with Ms. Solnit and Mr. Bowe. They discussed the process of writing as well as the subjects of their books. The authors then responded to questions from the audience. close
