Mr. Moore talked about the book he co-authored with Julian Simon, It’s Getting Better All the Time: 100 Greatest Trends of the Last 100 Years, published by Cato Institute. The book compiles data of how life in America has improved more since 1900 than in all previous centuries combined. It covers not only major technological advances, but the details of the obliteration of diseases, the accumulation of material wealth and increased opportunities for ownership. Mrs. Simon, the widow of a co-author, also commented on the book. Mr. Bernstein presented an opposing view to the author’s statistics and proposed that expanding government intervention and regulations made these trend advancements possible. After their remarks the panel responded to questions from the audience.
