Susumu Ito served during World War II as a second lieutenant in the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion of the famed all Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He recalled his California childhood, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and joining the 442nd. He served even as his family was forcibly held in an Arkansas internment camp.
