Co-authors Merritt Smith. Alexander Keyssar, Pauline Maier and Daniel Kevles discussed their book Inventing America, published by W.W. Norton and Company, which explores the theme of innovation in American history. They discussed a number of topics covered in the book, including the development of time conscientiousness as a by-product of industrialization, the role played by science in the development of the Panama Canal, the role played by electricity in American history, and the impact of the birth control pill on the issue of women’s rights. After their presentations, the authors answered questions from the audience. close
