Richard Wightman Fox talked about his book Trials of Intimacy: Love and Loss in the Beecher-Tilton Scandal, published by the University of Chicago Press. The book examines the life of 19th century abolitionist minister Henry Ward Beecher and an adultery charge brought against him by his friend Theodore Tilton. The author talked about gender, power and religion in Victorian America and details of the charges and trial. He responded to questions from the audience. close
