Secretary Rice, Secretary Gates and Admiral Mullen testified about cooperative partnerships between the Department of State and Department of Defense. Among the topics they addressed were efforts to conduct joint training for U.S. and allied personnel, the methods of instituting cooperative efforts in a systematic fashion, and ways the programs are intended to assist in antiterrorism efforts abroad. Questions about the deployment of foreign service personnel in Iraq prompted a contentious exchange between Representative Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Secretary Rice. close
