Zaki Chehab talked about his book Inside Hamas: The Untold Story of the Militant Islamic Movement, published by Nation Books. Journalist Zaki Chehab detailed the rise of Hamas in the Palestinian terrorities and described how the group was able to win Palestinian elections in 2006. In his book, Mr. Chehab argues that Hamas' extensive social welfare network is just as important to Palestinians as is the group’s message of armed struggled against Israel. Joining him in discussion was Khaled al-Yazji, former chief of protocol for the Palestinian Authority. They responded to questions from members of the audience, including the strength of al-Qa’ida in Gaza. Mr. Reidel moderated.

A Palestinian refugee, Zaki Chehab grew up in U.N. refugee camps. He is currently political editor of both the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper and the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation. close
