The Vice President spoke on telecommunications issues, and a proposed package of legislation intended to smooth the transition from regulated telecommunications in the U.S. to a “private system of free-flowing information conduits.” He described briefly some of the history of electronic communications, noting that the new technology of communication links has regularly shrunk the size of the world. These new technologies nearly always result in new, unexpected kinds of communication between human beings. The fastest-growing industry in the world is that of information dispersal. close
