Dignitaries spoke at the opening ceremony for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall in Washington, DC. They talked about the importance of contributions made by Native Americans and tribal peoples in the development of the U.S. Some speakers and audience members were in traditional tribal wear for the event. Senators Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado) and Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), as well as Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo were among the speakers. close
