Professor Stephan Gottlieb discussed his book Morality Imposed: The Rehnquist Court and Liberty in America, published by New York University Press. The book examines to what extent jurists decide cases in accordance with their own pre-existing philosophy of law, and what specific ideological assumptions account for their decisions. Professor Gottlieb focuses on the Rehnquist Court and suggests areas of discrepancy between what the conservative side of the Court says it believes and what the Justices have ruled. Professor Gottlieb opines the Rehnquist Court has been one of the most activist courts in history, declaring more statues unconstitutional than previous courts. After his presentation, he answered questions from members of the audience. close
