The subcommittee continued hearings on the inquiry into the conduct of U.S. District Court Judge Alcee L. Hastings. John Doar, former Special Counsel of the Investigating Committee of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, testified that even though Judge Hastings had been acquitted in a criminal trial of bribery and perjury, the acquittal was “immaterial” to the impeachment inquiry if the Judge had compromised his duties in any way. Hemphill Pride II, a friend of Judge Hastings, testified about assistance the Judge had provided him in being readmitted to the bar to practice law after a conviction.
