In the first segment, Rick Pollack, Executive Vice President of the American Hospital Association, talked about the effects of the Medicare law on hospitals and patients. He pointed to access to outpatient drugs, additional funding, and a moratorium on the expansion of “niche” or “boutique” hospitals as important elements of the law. Mr. Pollack responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail.

Then, John Nelson, M.D., President-Elect of the American Medical Association, talked via video link from Salt Lake City, Utah, about the effects of the Medicare law on doctors and their patients. Among the specific issues addressed were prescription drug benefits, physician reimbursement, and access to care. Dr. Nelson also responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail.

This was the third and final part of a three-day series on the impact of the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. close
