Democrats and Republicans from both Houses took part in a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute discussion on immigration reform. Senators from the bipartisan Gang of Eight talked about the Senate immigration bill that passed by 68 to 32. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) said he is guardedly optimistic on immigration reform calling it the “right thing to do.” They were followed by a bipartisan panel of House members including Representatives Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL), Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA). All agreed that immigration reform rests in the hands of the House Leadership. close
