Saddam Hussein and the other defendants are accused of crimes against humanity carried out in retaliation for the assassination attempt.
Defendants were escorted to the courtroom by armed Iraqi security personnel and seated in locked docks during the proceedings. The eight defendants were Saddam Hussein, Barzan Ebraheem, Taha Yasin Ramadhan, Awad Hamed Al-Bander, Abd Allah Kadhem Ruaid, Ali Daeem Ali, Mohammed Azawi Ali, and Mizher Abdulah Rawed.
At the end of the day’s proceedings, the judge adjourned the trial until November 28, 2005.
